June 25-30th Recap

mock interview: i am a part of this foundation for minority student-athlete professional development. it’s kind of intimidating, not because i don’t think i am capable of the tasks we are given each week. but mainly because of the other students schools. now don’t get me wrong i am the strongest advocate for my school but everyone else is like from an ivy league. i am incredibly sure of myself and i am confident in my professional development. but i also wonder how i would compare to students with a million resources and connections. for this week’s assignment i completed a mock interview with a track and field athlete from… i don’t remember what school he went to but obviously it’s a well-renowned institution. i did great (woohoo!) and we had a fascinating conversation about hbcu’s afterwards because i ended up being the only person to show up for that time slot. as i was describing it i started getting happier about returning to campus which is not a feeling i have been having recently. but i honestly think that my sophomore year will be perfect. i know so much more compared to when i first went in.

completed my first full week of interning: i also started an internship at the national center for urban solutions. i intern in the communications department which is so much fun and it’s helping me narrow down what i would like to do in business. i mainly do marketing and social media work: aka the fun and creative side of business. i have some family ties to the company so it’s nice seeing familiar faces. also, the work i do there is impactful, which is the coolest because i doubt i would have this much creative freedom and responsibility at a more prominent company. working here has also inspired me to explore entrepreneurship. the communications department hasn’t always been this big so i get to experience a lot of groundwork which is sick.

supreme court ruling: the supreme court has been absolutely wildin. i don’t have much to say about it tbh. it’s very depressing but not at all surprising. i have a lot of unique words for clarence thomas! so many.

breakfast basil scramble recipe: i make breakfast for massive family of 3 (including me) on the weekends. recently i have been trying out new recipes but we had so many ingredients i just decided to throw it into a scramble. the ingredients are listed in the picture above. it’s superrrrrr simple. the amount of eggs you need is 1 egg more than what each person would typically eat. this is going to be the worst recipe description ever but i so believe in not following instructions when you cook… so you get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit. literally throw everything in there, i saw go kind of light on the spicy spices because you can add siracha at the end. everything else you just kind of throw into a big bowl and you add more of want you like and what to taste every bite, and less of things you want as an accent to the food. throw everything into a bowl, and i advice cooking two servings at a time. (serving size is one person). so two scrambles at once you can serve as you go. cook everything in a non-stick pan, but still spray some cooking spray. if you understand wtv i just said and you make it and it’s good: let me know. if you have complaints because you cannot read and do not understand my perfect instructions: do what you want idc.

falling in love with working out again: college athlete burnout is literally one of worst things i have ever experienced. i suffered in silence during most of my first year and when i got home i met up with other college athletes that i knew from high school and omg i felt so much better. it got so bad that i stopped liking my sport as a whole, practicing, conditioning, and lifting feels like moving a mountain. but my dear friend is helping me change my mindset on college athletics so now i am starting to let go of that heavy miserable cloud that enters my mind every time i think about school. working out is starting to become fun, and i am establishing a routine. routines are traditionally arduous for me to maintain but i am doing a pretty decent job. i have started incorporating my friends who like to workout as a way to hold myself accountable. i included one of my workouts above so i’ll put it in clearer writing below:

kneeling overhead press x10
1 min plank
bent over row x8
1 min plank
snow angels x6
1 min plank
bicep curls x 10
1 min plank
overhead tricep extensions x 8
1 min side plank

kneeling overhead press x10
1 min side plank (switch)
bent over row x8
1min side plank (switch)
snow angels x6
1 min side plank (switch)
bicep curls x 10
1 min side plank (switch)
overhead tricep extensions x 8
1 min side plank (switch)

kneeling overhead press x till fail

bicep curls x till fail

when i tell y’all this gave me the most insane pump of all time. i felt like i could obliterate small midwestern towns.

recent beyoncé obsession: beyoncé is my music obsession of the week. i just love her music right now idk what it is. she literally helped me get out of the bed to start working out. my personal favorites of right now are:

cuff it
lose my breath
upgrade u
before i let go

southern accent: this is the most embarrassing thing of all time. i am like so so incredibly sorry to everyone. i have developed a southern accent. and it won’t go away. i have been trying… for forever. literally. idk it’s kinda cute and very charming and i keep convincing myself i sound like daisy buchanan. like oh my they need to lock me up. anyways i don’t see it fading anytime soon and i fr don’t even remember what i sound like. so uh… rip idk

seeing newts, bunnies, gunshots, deer, newark etc: i went on a lovelyyy hike to blackhand gorge this week with my friend. we saw lots of creatures, including newts, bunnies, and deer. the trail was so beautiful, we did get chased by a bug though. not just any bug like a loud… obnoxiously loud flying bug that was black and white and obsessed with us… obsessed. yeah did not fancy him too much but the rest of the hike was beautiful and lovely. omg except for the gunshots. yeah lots and lots of gunshots (qt. 3). blackhand gorge is in newark which i honestly have never spent a lot of time in. the city looks like it used to be like really populated and cool, now a lot of the buildings are boarded up but it seems like it would be cool to explore if it was completely abandoned.
